Learn how to grow Wine Cap in your outdoor garden patch.
Our 2kg Wine Cap Outdoor Spawn is the perfect choice for gardeners and mushroom enthusiasts who want to grow their own delicious and nutritious mushrooms directly in outdoor beds. Known as Stropharia rugosoannulata, the Wine Cap is also called the Garden Giant or King Stropharia, famous for producing large, meaty mushrooms with a mild, nutty flavor.
Why Choose Win Cap OutdoorSpawn
Outdoor spawn is ideal for outdoor cultivation because it colonises mulch, wood chips, and straw quickly and effectively. The 2kg size provides enough material to inoculate a generous garden bed, pathway, or permaculture area, is enough to cover a 1m2 area. Once established, Wine Caps can fruit for several seasons, giving you a consistent harvest year after year.
Growing Conditions
Wine Cap mushrooms thrive in shaded garden beds with hardwood chips, straw, or composted mulch. Simply spread the outdoor spawn evenly throughout the prepared substrate, water to maintain consistent moisture, and allow the mycelium to colonise. Fruiting temperatures range between 12°C and 25°C, and pinning is triggered by microbial activity in the bed.
Benefits of Growing Wine Cap Mushrooms
When to grow Wine cap?
Except winter, establish the wine cap anytime. Best time are spring and autumn. Temperature in the shaded spot should not go above 34°C or below 10°C for atleast 3 months while the mycelium is being established.During the establishment phase, ensure proper moisture in the growing area.
Taste and Culinary Uses
Wine Cap mushrooms have a firm texture and a flavor similar to roasted potatoes or sweet corn. They are excellent for grilling, stir-frying, adding to soups, or roasting.
With our high-quality 2kg Wine Cap outdoor Spawn, you can transform your garden into a productive mushroom bed and enjoy fresh, homegrown mushrooms straight from your backyard.
These are spawn bags and not fruiting kits to fruit from the bag.
Upon arrival, remove the bag from the box and unfold it to ensure the white filter patch is fully exposed, as this is where the mycelium breathes. Allow the bag to rest for 3–5 days in a location away from direct sunlight and airflow.
Use our Outdoor spawn for outdoor garden beds, it provides up to 1000 times more inoculation points than grain spawn, promising even and swifter colonisation in the long run. Outdoor spawn is preferred over grain spawn for outdoor cultivation as birds and insects tend to eat the grain before they have time to colonise your garden.
