Masters Mix Mushroom Substrate Sawdust and Soy Pellets

Our 3 kg pre-sterilized, ready-to-use Master Mix Mushroom Substrate is ideal for mushroom cultivation. Designed specifically for Wood-loving mushrooms, this substrate is hydrated to field capacity, ensuring optimal moisture content for mushroom growth. It is ideal for all woodloving mushroom species that like wood.

This substrate is a balanced blend of 50% hardwood sawdust and 50% soy pellets. Soy pellets are rich in fiber and nitrogen, essential for boosting mushroom growth. However, as the mixture contains only half wood, the later stages of mushroom growth might not be as prolific as the initial burst. This mix is excellent for various mushrooms but is not the best choice for species like Shiitake and Turkey Tail, which thrive in environments with more wood. The Master’s Mix is famous in mushroom farms and starter kits because it helps achieve a quick and impressive first harvest. It is incredibly motivating for beginners in mushroom cultivation and offers a faster turnaround for mushroom farmers.

The Master’s Mix Mushroom Substrate also comes with Woodchips. When mycelium comes in contact with woodchips while growing, they become really Vigorous—resulting in thicker and faster colonization. For more information about Mycelium, check out Our Grain Spawn.

If you are working with our Grain spawn and do not want to use up all the spawn in one go,  inoculated a grain bag with agar or inoculated a substrate bag with grain spawn for which you had to cut open the bag but have no way to seal the bag again consider to have our Large  Sealing Bag Clips

Source and Quality of Sawdust and Soy Pellets

We source our Sawdust directly from Tasmania, and pellets are made from Australian hardwood. Our Soy pellets are non-GMO and Australian-grown.

1. Take the bags out of their packaging as soon as possible, and keep them at room temperature, away from direct cold/heat sources.
2. Do not store uncolonized bags in the fridge; only fully colonized bags can be kept to slow down the fungus and delay fruiting until ready.
3. We recommend that the bags are colonized as soon as possible to minimize the chances of contamination or moisture loss.
4. Work in front of a flow hood or a still air box or in a room with no air movement with the workspace adequately sanitized.
5. Mix at least 15% grain spawn or higher of your desired species, mix it thoroughly in the bag, and let it colonize.
6. Incubate at 22-24°C in a dark spot and keep all the bags at a distance from each other to avoid excess heat.
7. Temperatures lower than 20°C make mycelium grow slowly, which could allow competing organisms to flourish. Temperatures above 24°C favor competing organisms rather than fungi, which increases the likelihood of contamination. Temperatures around 32-34°C will kill the mycelium.
8. Prioritise airflow over, keeping the bag in a dark spot. If there is no air current during colonization, the CO2 buildup inside the bag will not be able to be expelled out of the air filter patch. Excess CO2 buildup will suffocate mycelium, leading to slow growth and mycelium producing excess metabolite as a sign of stress, which changes the pH of the substrate and makes it easier for contamination to thrive.
